The June 2025 crash of an Air India plane, which tragically claimed more than 200 lives, could have been caused by an intentional maneuver. This is suggested by Sergio Hidalgo, a well-known aerospace engineer who posts related content on social media, after analyzing the preliminary accident report. He also highlights a key detail related to the fuel switches.

Sergio Hidalgo explains that on airplanes, such as Air India's Boeing 787, the switches that control fuel supply are crucial elements for engine operation. In the video, he details that, in an airplane engine, for the engine to continue operating, the switch must be in the "run" position, allowing a continuous flow of fuel. If this switch is lowered, the fuel supply is suddenly cut off, shutting down the engine. However, these switches are equipped with a safety mechanism, requiring the pilot to first pull the lever before changing the switch position, thus preventing accidental changes.

In the case of the Air India crash, Hidalgo points out that both switches were moved within a second of each other, suggesting that it was not an accidental error. This combination of two sequential movements could indicate that the switches were manipulated intentionally.

Furthermore, the engineer emphasizes that the small safety bars on the sides of the switches are designed to prevent anything from hitting the levers, which reinforces the hypothesis of a deliberate action.

Despite the evidence, Hidalgo also clarifies that in 2018, it had been reported that the interlock systems on these switches may have failed. Therefore, it is still necessary to wait for the final report to clarify the exact causes of the accident.

Finally, he also explains that pilots have access to these switches in case they need to use them in critical or extreme circumstances, such as a fire or an emergency landing.
